This program enables women to stretch and strengthen muscles, to regain full range of motion, and function. The result is improved self confidence and quality of life for survivors and their families.

 

Pilates is a low impact exercise regimen that strengthens the shoulder, abdominal /back and pelvic core muscles while emphasizing deep breathing resulting in improved mind and body integration.

 

Features include the following:

 

Improves lymphatic drainage by its emphasis upon deep breathing along with abdominal exercises which help pump excess lymphatic fluid back to the heart.

 

The emphasis in Pilates is minimal repetitions of an exercise done with correct form. This is perfect for someone at risk for lymphedema or whose fatigue is limiting endurance

 

Pilates helps with stress management as deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system which decreases our natural "fight or flight" reaction to a life threatening disease.

 

If you have special needs, Pilates can be done in a class or individual sessions and is performed standing, seated, lying on your front, side-lying, or on your back.
